ALTER (verb): to change something in a small but significant way.
We are a local Australian brand that designs ethical apparel with a positive impact on the world.
We believe in the power of small choices to make significant change. $1 from every product sold contributes to our latest Global Good Project.
While this may seem small, when added together, these contributions make real change for real people and real communities.
ALTER (verb):
to change something in a small but significant way.
Meet Our Founders
Alex Neil
Alex is the visionary and strategist behind Alter.
He has spent the last decade in youth work and is passionate about creating spaces for people to thrive in healthy community.
He loves spending time outdoors and many of our products are inspired by a lifestyle of fun and outdoor adventure.
His dream is to see Alter play a role in addressing social isolation, and enhancing social welfare needs locally and around the world through the power of community.
With a background in hospitality, Alex founded Alter Community Coffee to create a local space for connection. If you're ever in Brisbane, come say hi!
Laura Neil
Laura is the resident nerd of Alter.
Laura is currently undertaking a PhD in Mental Health, and previously majored in International Studies. She has featured on ABC Radio and The Conversation sharing her research findings.
She is passionate about removing barriers so that people experiencing disadvantages can thrive. An avid reader, she is constantly exploring the intersection between culture, politics, faith, economics and health to improve human flourishing around the world.

About our clothing
Ethical clothing made with care
We only use garments from manufacturers who have a commitment to ethical values.
Our Australian importers vet each manufacturer to ensure fair wages for workers, good factory conditions and quality garments.
On top of this, some of our range is made from organic cotton. Organic cotton is safer for you, healthier for the environment, and better for farmers and their families, preventing exposure to toxic pesticides and fertiliser poison in waterways and village drinking holes.
What we look for in a supplier
We use a number of suppliers to make our clothes.
Each has slightly different accreditations, and you can find out more through each product description page. However, these are the overarching values of our whole range.
Manufacturers are transparent about their supply chains and processes, and willing to continually improve.
Workers are paid a fair wage and given safe and clean working conditions
Garments are made with care and attention to quality, made for long-term durability (not fast fashion!)
Manufacturers are working towards minimising the environmental impact of their services
